Laurie Bauman (Founding Member, since 2005)
Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Children’s Hospital at Montefiore and is Principal Investigator of the Bronx Youth project. She was raised in the Bronx, attended PS109, JHS82, Walton High School and Lehman College and earned her Ph.D at Columbia University in Sociology. Her work focuses on the health and mental health of teenagers.
Zandalee Colon (member since 2010)
Zandalee is 16 years old, lives on Boston Road, and attends DeWitt Clinton High School. She is interested in music and art. She also enjoys hanging out with her friends in her spare time. She plans to study Law in the future, and would like to become a lawyer. She is Puerto Rican.
Stephanie is 16 years old, lives in the South Bronx, and attends Hostos Lincoln Academy. She loves to step, and she’s the captain of the step team. She also loves to play volleyball and tennis. When she graduates from high school, she would like to go to either Cornell or City College, and then become an elementary school teacher. She loves to tutor and help people with problems that they might have. She also loves to listen to music, especially country music. She is very outgoing and open-minded. She is addicted to Law and Order SVU and Criminal Minds.
Nyasha Daniels
Nyasha is 16 years old, lives in the Morris Park area, and attends Bronx High School for the Visual Arts. In her spare time, she likes to do photography, draw, paint, and is interested in fashion. She wants to pursue a career in photography or fashion. She is creative and shy. She loves to help people.
Brian Gallardo
Brian is 17 years old. He lives in the South Bronx and attends Mott Hall V. He loves to dance, play guitar, skate, play baseball, and chill. He is interested in being a psychologist. He is trustworthy, loves to have fun, and is a Yankee fan.
Dejah Hale (members since 2010)
Dejah is 17 years old, lives in the South Bronx, and attends Bronx School of Law and Finance. She likes watching TV, using the computer and internet, and spending time with friends. She wants to major in Business Management and Culinary, and is interested in pursuing a career as a culinary and pastry chef. She has high expectations for herself in the future, and her goals are endless. She is interested in working in the corporate field.
Lionel Harris
Lionel is 15 years old, lives in the South Bronx (near the Cross Bronx), and attends Mott Hall V High School. He plays basketball. He is interested in going into the Police Force. He was born in Alabama. His favorite football team is the Giants and his favorite basketball team is O.K.C. (Oklahoma City).
Lyniel Harris
Lyniel is 15 years old, lives in the South Bronx, and attends Mott Hall V High School. He likes to play basketball and listen to music. He is interested in becoming a host or an actor. He considers himself a leader when he feels no one else is stepping to the plate.
LaShay Harrison (currently in alumni status)
LaShay is 18 years old, lives in the Soundview area, and attends High School of Computers and Technology. She likes to sing and write. She wants to be a psychologist, a singer, or a physical therapist. Her family is descendant from Germany. Her favorite teams are the Celtics and the Giants. She is kind-hearted and understanding.
Alex Mohabir (member since 2010)
Alex is 17 years old, lives in the Pelham Parkway area, and attends Mount Saint Michael Academy. He enjoys shopping, reading books, working and studying. He is interested in pursuing a career in Pharmacy. He is smart, funny, and a cool person to be around.
Amanda Mohabir
Amanda is 17 years old, lives in the Eastchester area of the Bronx, and attends Preston High School. She likes to go ice skating, shopping, and going to the movies. She is extremely hard working. She plans to major in Biology and wants to be a Pediatrician. She is Trinidadian and Venezuelan. She loves Chris Brown.
“Doc Soye” is an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Psychology at the City College of the City University of New York. He also serves as a School Psychologist with the New York City Department of Education, where he established the Special Education Assessment and Tracking (SEAT) collaborative program at 3 New York City Schools. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from the City College Center for Worker Education (CCNY-CWE) with a B.A. in Liberal Arts and Psychology in 1999. He went on to complete his Master of Arts (M.A.) in General Psychology at City College in 2001. He ultimately completed his Doctorate of Psychology (Psy.D.), along with a Master of Science and Education (M.S.Ed.), in the School-Clinical Child Psychology program at Pace University. His professional experiences include personality, social-emotional, neuro-cognitive, and behavioral assessments. He is specifically involved in psycho-educational testing, the classification and treatment of emotional and learning disabilities, promoting psychological resilience, and professional consultation. His research interest spans psychosocial issues associated with HIV/AIDS, cancer prevention, cancer survivorship, and psychological resilience.
Reyna Manning
Reyna is 16 years old, lives in Co-op City, and attends Hostos Lincoln Academy. She likes to dance, sing, spend time with friends, and play sports. She wants to be a Physician’s Assistant. She is Jamaican and Black. Her favorite football team is the Giants.
Queen- Destiny Manson (member since 2010)
Queen is 16 years old, lives in the Throggs Neck area, and attends Pelham Prep Academy. She enjoys reading, writing, music, singing, skateboarding, running, and photography. In the future, she is interested in careers in photography, therapy, or to be an author. She loves metal music, and is an “Emo” kid. She may not allow shy people to remain shy. She is very random, and loves making people laugh.
Carlos Moran
Carlos is 17 years old, lives in the Fordham area of the Bronx, and attends Hostos Lincoln Academy of Science. He enjoys playing soccer, basketball, football, and likes to watch movies. He is interested in obtaining a career in the medical field. He is a very persistent person who has high expectations.
Farah Nesbeth
Farah is 17 years old, lives in Co-op City, and attends Preston High School. She likes to scrapbook and swim in her spare time. She wants to become a high school guidance counselor or a history teacher. She is a very outgoing person who enjoys socializing and meeting new people.
Rosemary Ordonez Jenkins (member since 2008)
Assistant Executive Director of Phipps Community Development Corporation, Ms. Ordonez Jenkins holds a Master’s degree in Administration from the Fordham Graduate School of Social Services. She is also licensed and certified as a Master Social Worker by the New York State Department of Education, and was raised in the Bronx. Ms. Ordonez Jenkins’ previous work included co-facilitating a Young Adult Teen Girls Support group to provide young women between the ages of 13 to 21 years old with a confidential and safe environment to discuss issues related to dating, violence prevention, HIV/AIDS, family issues, parenting, substance abuse prevention and peer pressure. Rosemary is passionate about seeing youth in the Bronx community develop into successful and productive members of society.
Karina Santiago
Karina is 17 years old, lives in the Cauldwell Avenue area, and attends Mott Haven Village Preparatory. She likes to listen to music, go out with friends, go on the computer, and text. She hopes to be a veterinarian. She is Puerto Rican: She was born in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico and is from Isabela, Puerto Rico.
Quincy Tyler (member since 2010)
Quincy is 17 years old, lives in Marble Hill, and attends Bronx School of Law and Finance. He loves to work or go out with his friends. He would like to be a lawyer, teacher, or a cop.
Ismael Williams
Ismael is 17 years old, lives in the Jackson Avenue area of the South Bronx, and attends Mott Haven Village Preparatory. He likes to play basketball and Call of Duty. He wants to be a NYPD officer. His family comes from Columbia and Alabama.
